US sanctions force Iranian airlines to suspend flights
NQ
Flights by Iranian airlines to neighboring countries, including the UAE and Oman, have been suspended following new US sanctions.
Postxronika.az reports, citing Reuters, that the UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority announced that all flights by Iranian airlines have been suspended until further notice.
Iran's Tasnim news agency said flights have also been suspended to Oman, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Iraq's capital, Baghdad.
The US announced that starting September 23 it will impose sanctions on foreign companies cooperating with Iranian airlines.
The aim of the move is to restrict the global operations of Iran's civil aviation fleet.
Iranian officials, meanwhile, said the US air blockade could further escalate tensions in the region.
