An exhibition titled “Touching History,” dedicated to the judo World Championship held in Baku, has been made available for visitors at the Azerbaijan National Museum of Carpet. The display features eight stage outfits inspired by national carpet-weaving traditions, presented at the opening ceremony of the tournament. Thanks to the creative approach of designer Laman Suleymanova, ancient patterns and colors have found new expression in modern clothing.
Postxronika.az reports that the main purpose of the event is to present athletes’ sporting achievements to an international audience as part of the country’s rich cultural life. These unique outfits, specially made for the championship, were officially donated to the museum’s collection by the Azerbaijan Judo Federation. The synthesis of ancient art examples with modern stage costumes makes an important contribution to passing national heritage on to future generations.
The exhibits on display will be open to visitors in the museum’s exhibition hall every day until October 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Residents of the capital and guests of the city are showing great interest in this project, which reflects the unity of sport and culture. Cultural figures highly value the role of similar initiatives in promoting national values.
