New rule in Singapore: hundreds of dollars in fines for playing loud music on the bus
RH
Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) has set fines of up to 500 Singapore dollars for passengers who put their feet on seats, play loud audio, eat, or litter on buses, as part of efforts to combat uncivil behavior on public transport. Under the new rules, those who dirty terminals or create hazards for other passengers will face steeper financial penalties of up to 5,000 dollars.
"Postxronika.az" reports, citing the BBC, that these issues, previously regulated only by bus drivers' verbal warnings, are now considered formal legal violations and will be formalized on the spot by authorized inspectors through official protocols. A statement released by the authority stressed that, given similar restrictions have already been successfully applied on the MRT subway network, the decision has now been expanded to cover bus transport as well.
The introduction of penalties for loud music in Poland's Krakow, and similar proposals being put forward in Britain, show a growing global trend toward preserving comfort on public transport. Singaporean officials say this step will foster an environment of mutual respect among passengers and significantly improve travel safety.
