Trump calls for Iran's total isolation, expects deal only after election
RH
US President Donald Trump, speaking at the UN General Assembly, declared he has no intention of resuming talks with Tehran at this time and called on the world's nations to ensure Iran's complete economic isolation. Stressing that Washington will not make concessions, Trump noted he believes a final deal ending the seven-month military conflict will only be reached immediately after the US midterm elections.
"Postxronika.az" reports, citing Reuters, that Iran, calling the UN General Assembly a "golden opportunity" for a return to diplomacy, said it could reopen the Strait of Hormuz to shipping within seven days in exchange for Washington easing military pressure and lifting the blockade of its ports. At a time when direct contacts have been severed since July, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the US remains open to dialogue, though Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stressed that Trump would not be able to impose his will on Iran through force.
Disagreements continue to deepen between Tehran's conditions, conveyed to Washington through mediators via its latest proposals, and the Trump administration's hardline isolation stance. These mutual statements made from the UN podium show that diplomatic paths toward resolving the ongoing Middle East crisis remain complicated
