US President Donald Trump is preparing to meet with the leaders of Greenland and Denmark and sign an agreement that would allow for an expansion of the US military presence on the island.
Postxronika.az reports, citing Reuters, that under the agreement, two new US military facilities — in Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig — are expected to open in Greenland.
The US currently operates the Pituffik Space Base on the island. Located between the Arctic and North America, Greenland has extensive energy and mineral resources. Trump's refusal to rule out using military or economic force to acquire the island sparked a diplomatic crisis within NATO in January.
