33% increase in cargo handled at "Azerbaijan Railways"’ Astara Terminal
RH
More than 631,000 tons of cargo were handled during the first nine months of 2026 at the Astara Terminal located in Iranian territory, by Azerbaijan Railways CJSC. The volume of shipments carried out via the strategic facility increased by 33% compared with the same period of the previous year. In particular, in September the relevant figure rose by 52% to more than 93,000 tons.
Postxronika.az reports, citing ADY, that this significant rise in the terminal’s operations demonstrates the expansion of the throughput capacity of the North-South international transport corridor. The renewal of logistics infrastructure in the area and optimization of operations have enabled cargo flows to accelerate further. Efficient management of the transit facility further strengthens Azerbaijan’s position as a regional transport hub.
The phased increase in transit volumes makes a major contribution to the expansion of trade turnover between the two countries and to the region’s economic potential. It is expected that a similar positive trend in international cargo transportation will be maintained in the terminal’s future activities. Experts in the transport sector assess these indicators as a significant step forward on the region’s logistics map.
